Why Are My Layers Hiding My Important Content?
Table of Contents
When designing your yearbook pages, you may notice that certain elements suddenly disappear or appear “hidden” behind others. This usually happens because of layer order. Each item you place on a page—text boxes, photos, shapes, backgrounds—sits on its own layer. When layers overlap, the one on top will cover anything beneath it.
Understanding how layers work will help you quickly troubleshoot and ensure all your important content remains visible.
Common Reasons Your Content Is Hidden
1. A Shape or Background Is Placed on Top
If you placed a shape or background after adding your photos or text, it may be sitting above your content and covering it.
Fix:
Right click on the overlapping frame and select Frame Index. Next, use the Send to Back or Send Backward option to move the shape or background behind your content.

2. A Photo or Text Box Is Behind Another Layer
Sometimes, items accidentally get moved behind others, especially when dragging or resizing.
Fix:
Select the hidden item and use Bring to Front or Bring Forward to make it visible again.

3. Overlapping Elements on a Busy Page
When multiple elements overlap, it may not be obvious which item is blocking another.
Fix:
Check your layer order by selecting each element and adjusting its position using the layer tools.
4. Full-Page Backgrounds Cover Photos or Text
If you’re using a full bleed background, it can accidentally cover existing items.
Fix:
Always insert backgrounds first or move them behind everything using Send to Back.
How to Fix Layer Order
Click the element you want to adjust.
Look for the Layer options in your toolbar.
Choose:
Background or Content layer.

Helpful Tip
If something seems “missing,” it’s almost always hiding behind another element. Selecting nearby items and adjusting layers one by one can help you quickly find what’s covering it.
