Protecting your layout and managing visibility

In yearbook production, your ladder is the master plan for the entire book. As pages move from planning to completion, advisors need tools to protect finished work and control what students can see or edit.

Two important tools for managing this process are locking pages and hiding pages in the ladder.

Locking Pages in the Ladder

What Does Locking a Page Do?

Locking a page prevents further edits. Once locked:

  • Page elements cannot be moved, resized, or deleted
  • Text and images cannot be changed
  • The layout remains exactly as designed
  • Students cannot accidentally alter completed work

Think of locking as “freezing” the spread.

Hiding Pages in the Ladder

What Does Hiding a Page Do?

Hiding a page removes it from general visibility for certain users while keeping it in the book.

Hidden pages:

  • Remain part of the ladder
  • Cannot be edited by those without access
  • Are preserved for advisor-only or restricted use
  • Hides the Page Preview to editors

Hiding controls visibility. Locking controls editing.

Advisors will often lock pages that are a surprise for the yearbook staff, pages with senior quotes or surprises, reward announcements, ads, and more
