There are a few different colored lines in EDOnline that exist to help users keep their content fully contained within the page, but also to help the page look as good as possible.

The lines on the outside edge are Red, Black and Pink/Purple and each line has it's own purpose. We will also cover the Blue Spine lines that appear in the center of the cover page.

The first is the PINK/PURPLE line, which we call the Safe zone. This line sits .25 inches from the edge of the page. Keeping important content in here is highly recommended as anything beyond it may get snipped while printing.

Beyond the purple line is the BLACK line.

This is where the pages get cut, and (on the cover) where hardcover cases gets folded. The space between the black line and the purple is the margin of error, reiterating the point to make sure important content is within the purple lines.

All they way to the edge is the RED line, or the "Bleed". This line sits .125 (or 1/8th inch) outside of the black cut line.

All printing jobs have this for extra space when cutting out a fully designed sheet of paper. If you have a background, or background element, make sure that the bleed extends all they way to the red line to avoid any white lines from appearing on the front cover, or the pages.  Keep that book looking tidy!

Lastly, here are the SPINE LINES.

Pages do not have this guideline, but this is to show you where the spine will be, and you can put anything within these lines like text, to guarantee they'll appear on the spine. Hardcover spines have 4 spine lines instead of 2, but as long as all spine content is in those lines, you're good to go!

Please Note: The spine text should be rotated 90 degrees CLOCKWISE so it shows upright when the book is laying on a surface closed with the front cover on top.
