Adding a Stroke to Text What Does a Stroke Do? Tips for Using Strokes

A stroke is an outline that appears around the outside of text. Adding a stroke can help text stand out against busy backgrounds, improve readability, and create eye-catching design effects.

Adding a Stroke to Text

Step 1) Select the text box you want to add a stroke to. The text box will highlight in red when selected

Step 2) In the quick menu in the text stroke section, adjust the size of the stroke and color. You can choose from our set color pallet or from your custom colors.

Step 3) Continue adjusting the color and width until you achieve the desired look.

You can apply this to any text box and you can adjust the size and color at anytime.

What Does a Stroke Do?

A stroke creates an outline around each letter in your text. This outline helps separate the text from the background, making it easier to read and giving it more visual impact.

For example:

  • Black text with a white stroke stands out on dark backgrounds.
  • White text with a black stroke remains readable over photos.
  • Colored strokes can add emphasis and match your yearbook's design theme.

Tips for Using Strokes

  • Use subtle stroke widths for a clean, professional appearance.
  • Increase the stroke width when placing text over detailed photos.
  • Choose stroke colors that contrast with both the text color and the background.
  • Avoid excessively thick strokes, as they can make text difficult to read.

Adding a stroke is a simple way to improve text visibility and enhance your yearbook designs.
